    1997 Military Journalism Winners Announced

    Marine Cpl. Matthew Hagerman and Army Staff Sgt. Terry Anderson won top individual honors in DoD's 1997 Thomas Jefferson journalism competition.

    Hagerman, the 1997 print journalist of the year, is a staff writer with the Consolidated Public Affairs Office, Camp Pendleton, Calif. Second place in the print contest went to Chuck Prichard, U.S. Army Reserve 90th Regional Support Command, North Little Rock, Ark.

    Anderson, the 1997 broadcast journalist of the year, works for Soldiers Radio and Television in Alexandria, Va. Second place honors went to Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Freddie J. Rodrigue, Navy/Marine Corps News, Naval Media Center, Washington, D.C.

    The American Forces Information Service sponsors the annual competition. Print judges were Professor Rose Ann Robertson, director of writing programs, School of Communication, The American University; Glenn W. Goodman Jr., senior editor, Armed Forces Journal International; and Tony Capaccio, Bloomberg News Service.

    Broadcast judges were Richard Wells, director of production, The Learning Channel; Joseph L. Cook, communications instructor and adjunct faculty member, Northern Virginia Community College; and Gregory D. Johnson, managing editor, NBC Radio News and Mutual News.
