The United Service Organizations is teaming up with Wal-Mart and AT&T to provide free 60- minute phone cards to overseas troops so they can say "Hi" to mom on Mother's Day.

Diane Rogers, USO director of corporate donations, said Wal-Mart purchased 377,577 pre-paid 60-minute phone cards that can be used by troops serving overseas. Any troop with telephone access, she noted, can call home from anywhere in the world.

To send a free calling card to a relative or loved one, bring the service member's APO or FPO post office code number to a local Wal-Mart or Sam's Club store or access Wal-Mart Web pages at www.wal-mart.com or www.samsclub.com, and look for the "Dial Home for Mother's Day" sign. Troops can pick up their free phone cards at overseas USO centers.

The sign-up program runs until May 9. Mother's Day is May 12.

"Right now, we have thousands of troops serving overseas -- many of whom have been away from family and friends for many months," USO President Edward A. Powell said recently in announcing the campaign. "We have teamed with Wal-Mart and AT&T to bring our troops a little closer to home this Mother's Day.

"We know there are some troops located in isolated areas or in places that may not have phones, but we are committed to delivering phone cards to as many troops as we can," he added.
