"No threat will prevent freedom-loving people from defending freedom," President Bush said during a White House news conference with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.

Koizumi, who visited the site at the Pentagon where a hijacked jet hit the building Sept. 11, said Japan is ready to stand by the United States to fight terrorism. "We must fight terrorism with a determination and a patience," he said.

After the Sept. 11 attack, Koizumi ordered the Japanese Self-Defense Force to provide medical services, transportation and supplies to U.S. forces and others taking measures related to the terrorist attacks. In addition, Japan will work with the United States to strengthen force protection for American bases in the country.

Japan has also dispatched ships to gather information and will strengthen international co-operation on information sharing and immigration control

Bush said he and Koizumi also discussed ways to cut off funding to terrorist organizations.

Bush said he has been pleased with the international support for the war on terrorist organizations. He said he appreciates that the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia cut off relations with the Taliban.

He also highlighted the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin made a strong statement about Russian-U.S. cooperation in combating global terrorism. "The duties of the coalition may alter," Bush said, "but the mission won't alter, and that is to rout out and destroy international terrorism."
