The Defense Department has reduced by one its estimate of the number of personnel unaccounted for in the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the Pentagon. The department estimate is now 125.
DoD reported Sept. 14 that 10 personnel of defense agencies remained unaccounted for. However, one of those DoD employees, Bryan C. Jack, had been double-counted. Jack was aboard American Airlines Flight 77, the hijacked jetliner that crashed into the Pentagon, and already counted in the passenger manifest.
The department's new estimate does not include the airline passengers.
The Army list of unaccounted for personnel is posted on the Web at www.defenselink.mil/releases/2001/b09142001_bt428-01.html. The defense agencies list is at www.defenselink.mil/news/ Sep2001/b09142001_bt427-01.html. The Navy list is at www.defenselink.mil/releases/2001/b09132001_bt423-01.html.
