Air Force installations captured three of four titles in the Defense Commissary Agency's 2000 Best Commissary awards program.
The winners are:
“The management teams in all competing commissaries displayed great commitment to our strategic objectives,” said Air Force Maj. Gen. Robert J. Courter Jr., DeCA director. “(Their performance) shows how DeCA’s effort to increase sales, reduce unit costs, shape our work force, improve our infrastructure and leverage technology translates into an improved benefit for customer.
"I appreciate the leadership displayed by the store directors of all the competing commissaries in keeping their shelves stocked, offering their customers great produce, taking care of their stores’ appearance and keeping in touch with their customers."
The Best Commissary awards are named in memory of statesmen who protected the commissary benefit and championed quality of life issues for military families. Winners will receive engraved trophies, and runners-up receive smaller engraved trophies.

Three teams from DeCA headquarters visited the 17 nominated stores and evaluated them in six major areas: management, customer service, accountability controls, and their grocery, meat and produce departments.
