KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - In Kandahar and Helmond Provinces, the 20th Engineer Battalion is living up its motto “Build and Fight,” introducing two new companies to its ranks. The 806th Engineer Company, an Army Reserve Company out of Arkansas, formally joined Task Force LUMBERJACK in the fight in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The 806th is led by two capable and experienced leaders, Company Commander Capt. James A. Reid and 1st Sgt. William Chad Cochran, both of whom have been previously deployed. The second addition is B/40th Engineer Company, who joins the LUMBERJACK's from Baumholder, Germany. Leadership from B/40th includes Company Commander, Capt. Lorintz Gleich and 1st Sgt. Ricky Cliatt. The LUMBERJACK's are excited to add both companies to its ranks and look forward to seeing how these two units will perform in the future.
In the past six months in Afghanistan the LUMBERJACK’s have conducted over 1,200 combat patrols ensuring freedom of movement for the local economy, Coalition Forces, and Afghan people. The 806th and B/40th will add to the four companies that currently make up the 20th Engineer Battalion pushing the total of soldiers in the Battalion to over 1,000.
The 20th is part of the 36th Engineer Brigade, based in Fort Hood, Texas.
