The 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade welcomed a new commander at Gammon Field, June 25. Col. Robert Risberg handed over the guidon as well as the brigade to Col. Frank Rangel during a traditional ceremony at Gammon Field, Friday. Brig. Gen. David C. Petersen, 1st Infantry Division Deputy Commanding General, presided over the ceremony.
Risberg thanked the four communities Fort Leonard Wood, 1st Infantry Division, Joint Task Force-Civil Support, and the local community of St. Robert and Waynesville for their ongoing support to the 4th MEB. Rangel pledged to those same communities to maintain a great relationship that Risberg had built.
Rangel’s most recent assignments have been commander of the 720th MP Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas. He deployed the battalion headquarters in February 2007 to Iraq in support of the 89th MP Brigade, Multinational Division-Center (3rd Infantry Division), and Multi-National Force-Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-09. He redeployed the battalion in May of 2008, and in September, Rangel assumed duties as the Chief, Tactical Maneuver Support Branch, Concepts Integration and Development Division, Maneuver Support Center. In July 2009, Rangel reported for duty as a student at the Naval War College, Newport, R.I.
Risberg became the first commander of the 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Aug. 15, 2008. He will be reporting to Baghdad, Iraq, to become the Chief of Staff to the J9 (Strategic Effects), U.S. Forces-Iraq.
