The U.S. military’s top officer is in Pakistan today to meet with senior government and military leaders there, officials said today.
Navy Adm. Mike Mullen is making his fifth visit to Pakistan since he became the Joint Chiefs chairman in October. He is slated to meet with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ashfaq Kayani.
The admiral has been focused on working more closely with Pakistan’s military to improve coordination and effectiveness in operations against extremist safe havens in the border areas between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
