FORT DIX, N.J. -- For some people leadership comes naturally. For most, it must be learned. Thus, the reason the United States Army Reserve Non-commissioned Officer Academy provides the Warrior Leadership Course for junior personnel in the ranks of specialist and corporal preparing them for the elevation into the NCO corps.

The first rung up the ladder of leadership training for 141 Soldiers culminated in their graduation from WLC Class 009-10 during a ceremony at Timmermann Center June 18.

Special guest speaker, Command Sgt. Maj. Bonita Davis, Army Support Activity-Dix command sergeant major, told the class, “Leadership is leadership, no matter how you slice it. This is the most important school, besides basic training, that you can attend. It is the foundation on which all of your future successes will be built.”

The Distinguished Honor Graduate Award went to Cranberry Township, Pa., resident Spc. Annette LaSerre, assigned to the 300th Chemical Company, 2nd Detachment headquartered in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Sgt. Aaron Hess, who makes his home in Quincy, Ill., received the Distinguished Leadership Award. Hess is assigned to the 98th Division in Rochester, N.Y.

Davis sent the graduates off with these parting words, “Remember, education is still the key. Always know you can make a difference. Always communicate, counsel, mentor and train Soldiers and be all you can be. You as leaders need to make things different… lead by example.”

Course topics include leadership, training management, map reading, land navigation, drill and ceremony, and war fighting.
