Afghan commandos, aided by coalition forces, detained 19 suspected bomb makers yesterday in eastern Afghanistan, military officials reported.

The combined forces conducted an early morning search of a compound suspected of harboring insurgents in Ghazni province’s Andar district.

The commandos conducted the search after receiving information from local villagers that the compound served as a meeting place where violent extremists planned crimes against both civilian and government targets.

During the search, the forces detained 19 bomb makers they believe planned to assemble and then detonate the lethal devices in public areas.

The forces were able to capture the suspects without firing a shot. The members of one of the Taliban’s auxiliary cells, responsible for providing lethal aid to the insurgent network, did not resist during the detention process.

The commandos safeguarded all women and children in the compound. No casualties were reported.
