MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – U.S. Marines and Sailors with 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, were recognized by U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Michael S. Cederholm, commanding general of I MEF, for being the highest performing unit during Operation Clean Sweep II at Camp Pendleton, California, July 1, 2025.

As the second deliberate maintenance stand down since the I MEF and Marine Corps Installations West Barracks 360 Reset initiative began last year, OCS II focused on investing additional time, training, and resources into sustaining improved barracks conditions and expanded improvements to additional locations.

In the spirit of competition and camaraderie, service members and the staffs assigned to installations across the west coast competed during OCS II for a $5,000 prize to be invested into the rest and recuperation of Marines and Sailors in line with the Barracks 360 Reset initiative. Having scored the highest total score across unit assessments and a barracks resident survey, 7th ESB Marines and Sailors accepted the award.

“This award is a testament of the excellence of our Marines and Sailors,” said Lt. Col. Steven M. Bancroft, commanding officer of 7th ESB. “They effectively carried out the commanding general’s intent and improved their fighting positions with the resources available to them.”

Approximately $10.3 million was allocated for OCS II, enabling the execution of 4,079 self-help projects and repairs aimed at improving operational readiness through enhancing living conditions. Notably, Marines and Sailors installed 6,177 new air conditioning units ahead of rising summer temperatures.

“Marines and Sailors thrive in competition just as they do in conflict, which includes improving their position,” said Lt. Col. Robert Hillery, I MEF G-4 deputy. “7th ESB has set a new benchmark for I MEF units to emulate as barracks renovation efforts continue across the force and I MEF prepares to execute the next iteration of Operation Clean Sweep.”

I MEF and MCI-West plan to hold maintenance stand-downs semi-annually. By proactively addressing maintenance requests, I MEF is reinforcing the Marine Corps’ commitment to ensure every Marine and Sailor inhabits a living space on par with the caliber of their service so that they can be ready for crisis or contingency.
