Afghan army commandos, assisted by coalition forces, were attacked today during a clearing operation in Afghanistan’s Kapisa province, and a combined force in Khost province detained three suspected militants yesterday.

In the Kapisa operation, the combined element was searching an area known for enemy activity in the province’s Yakdan Valley region when it came under heavy small-arms fire from a nearby compound. The forces used small-arms and mortar fire to help neutralize the enemy.

Air strikes were called to defuse the enemy and cut off their retreat routes. Two militants were killed during the engagement.

On the eastern outskirts of Khost city yesterday, Afghan and coalition forces raided a compound to locate an insurgent wanted for trafficking weapons and supplies for Haqqani terrorist network leaders.

Afghan forces led a search of the compound, where they found a chest rack, a coalition forces assault pack and a large sum of U.S. dollars. Three men were detained for further questioning.
