JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii, July 3, 2025 - The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) was awarded the 2024 Arleigh Burke Fleet Trophy at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, July 2, 2025.

Adm. Stephen Koehler, Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, presented the trophy to the officers and crew of Michael Murphy.

"This ship was built to fight and those on it better know how. All the work that all of you did while 248 days underway and how well you did it made deciding a winner a pretty simple choice,” said Adm. Koehler while praising the crew of Michael Murphy. “This ship is combat ready and in 2024, all of you proved it, showed it and came back safely. I couldn’t be more proud.”

Michael Murphy was announced as the 2024 Pacific Fleet winner in June 2025. The trophy itself is awarded annually to one submarine, ship or aircraft squadron, on both the Pacific and Atlantic Fleet, for having achieved the greatest improvement in battle efficiency during the calendar year, based upon the battle efficiency competition.

In 2024, Michael Murphy deployed for five months as part of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group. The ship traveled 44,689 nautical miles throughout U.S. 3rd, 7th, 5th, and 6th Fleet, completed 748 hours of flight operations, transferred 3,524,527 gallons of F-76, executed 21 replenishments-at-sea, and completed 11 strait transits, totaling 75 hours in restricted waters.

Michael Murphy also demonstrated significant measurable progress. The ship had an overall retention rate of 84.5% in 2024, an improvement from 77% in 2023. Additionally, Michael Murphy retained its effectiveness across its engineering programs two years in a row and demonstrated above and beyond excellence in logistics readiness.

Capt. Adam Cheatham, Commander, Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific, congratulated the officers and crew: “I am so proud of Capt. Jonny Greenwald and the crew of the Michael Murphy for their demonstrated combat readiness across all warfare areas. They truly earned this award.”

Michael Murphy is an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer homeported in Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. Named after Medal of Honor recipient Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy, the ship embodies the warrior spirit, courage and dedication that define its namesake. Commissioned in 2012, Michael Murphy supports a wide range of missions, including maritime security, power projection and integrated fleet operations. Michael Murphy is a recipient of the 2024 Arleigh Burke Fleet Trophy and is recognized as the most improved surface combatant in the Pacific Fleet, a testament to the crew’s exceptional performance, resilience and commitment to operational excellence.
