    U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria

USAG BAVARIA – HOHENFELS, Germany – Community members came together to enjoy food, entertainment and, by the end of the night, a sky full of fireworks during U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria’s Freedom Fest July 3, 2025 near Hohenfels, Germany.

The event took place at Warrior Field in the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, cantonment, where Families laid down blankets to hold a picnic, sat on benches to eat barbecue from Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, and children jumped in bounce houses.

Col. Stephen C. Flanagan, the commander of USAG Bavaria, opened the event.

“This celebrates 249 years for our country since we declared independence,” he said. “That independence and that freedom has been maintained ever since because of our Soldiers and those willing to fight to defend our freedom.”

After Flanagan’s remarks, Family member Mason Sheets played “The Star-Spangled Banner” on electric guitar, bringing those assembled to a cheer. Afterward, Flanagan presented Sheets with a garrison coin.

Several organizations came out to support the event, with Army Community Services and the American Red Cross giving away free gifts and Service Credit Union and USO Camp Albertshof with many lawn games for community members to compete on. Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation set up tables and benches, bounce houses for young children and cooked food and served drinks to customers.

And Families gathered and enjoyed the evening, setting up lawn chairs to chat with one another. Some of them sat in benches and talked with one another, enjoying each other’s company.

Mild weather greeted the community, who brought blankets to stretch out and enjoy the evening with their Families. As darkness set in, children lit up glow sticks and ran about the field. Then, with a crack the sky lit up and most everyone’s gaze drifted to north of the field where fireworks were sent up into the sky to blast and crackle.

The communities at Grafenwoehr and Vilseck are scheduled to host their Fourth of July celebration July 4, 2025.
