Another frenzied holiday season is well under way. Shoppers once again have hit the stores and Internet in massive numbers, searching for the best deals possible before the dreaded “sold out” sign appears.
But in the midst of the shopping craze, people should take a moment to ensure they’re protecting themselves against credit fraud and identity theft.
Air Force Tech. Sgt. John Orrell, of the National Guard Bureau, passes on some great tips for shoppers -- including the importance of monitoring bank accounts and shredding credit card statements -- in his National Guard article "Protecting Against Credit Fraud and Identity Theft During the Holidays."
I plan to take much of his advice. I figure it’s better to take a few steps now, rather than clean up a mess later.
