Two Afghan civilians were killed and scores of International Security Assistance Force service members and Afghan civilians were injured in a vehicle-bomb attack yesterday at Combat Outpost Sayed Abad in Afghanistan’s Wardak province.
Seventy-seven ISAF personnel and up to 25 Afghan civilians suffered non-life-threatening injuries, officials said, adding that most of the injured ISAF personnel likely will return to their duties shortly.
The injured were taken to medical facilities or were treated at the scene.
Officials said the explosion damaged the outpost’s perimeter wall and a maintenance facility, but protective barriers around the site absorbed most of the explosion.
“The [combat outpost] remains operational, and protective barriers have been repaired after the failed attempt by insurgents to degrade operational capabilities and cause loss of life to coalition troops,” ISAF Joint Command officials said in a written statement.
