    All four active-duty services and four of the six reserve components met or exceeded their recruiting goals in October, the first month of fiscal 2012, Pentagon officials announced today.

    Here are the numbers for the active services:

    -- Army: 5,462 accessions, for 101 percent of its goal of 5,400;

    -- Navy: 2,258 accessions, for 100 percent of its goal of 2,258;

    -- Air Force: 1,399 accessions, for 100 percent of its goal of 1,399.

    Four of the six reserve components met or exceeded their numerical accession goals:

    -- Army National Guard: 3,450 accessions, for 96 percent of its goal of 3,578;

    -- Army Reserve: 1,728 accessions, for 106 percent of its goal of 1,630;

    -- Navy Reserve: 642 accessions, for 100 percent of its goal of 642;

    -- Marine Corps Reserve: 977 accessions, for 115 percent of its goal of 847;

    The Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force all exhibited strong retention numbers for the first month of fiscal 2012, officials added, and all reserve components met their fiscal 2011 attrition goals. Attrition data for the reserve components lags recruiting data by one month, officials explained.
