    Aviation Center of Excellence

FORT RUCKER, Ala. - Maj. Gen. Clair Gill, commanding general of the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker, hosted a luncheon Tuesday bringing together key community leaders for open dialogue about issues affecting the installation and the surrounding Wiregrass region. The luncheon, held July 1 at the East Beach Lodge on Fort Rucker, drew attendees from across the area, including local mayors, city planners, medical professionals, and federal legislative representatives. Gill emphasized the importance of consistent communication and collaboration between Fort Rucker and its neighboring communities. Gill discussed the Army’s Transformation Initiative and its potential impact on the installation, noting that the service is seeking efficiencies and undergoing modernization. Gill also addressed concerns about Flight School Next, dismissing rumors of the program relocating to Florida. “Fort Rucker is not going away,” he said. “We do all our helicopter flying right here.” He also explained Flight School Next aims to improve pilot proficiency by focusing on fundamental skills. Pinckard Mayor Bobby Borland expressed appreciation for the gathering and suggested similar meetings be held a few times a year. The luncheon is part of an ongoing effort by Fort Rucker to strengthen ties with the region and ensure the installation remains a positive force in the Wiregrass economy and quality of life.
