An Afghan and coalition security force detained a Taliban leader during an operation in the Wali Muhammad Shahid Khugyani district of Afghanistan’s Ghazni province today, military officials reported.

The insurgent leader coordinated improvised explosive device operations and conducted attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the province, officials said.

The security force also detained two suspected insurgents.

Also today, a combined force detained several suspects during a search for a senior Taliban leader in the Musa Qal’ah district of Helmand province. The sought-after insurgent leader coordinates the placement of IEDs and directs attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

During a June 4 operation, a combined force killed several insurgents and discovered several caches containing 106 pounds of wet opium, 2,156 pounds of poppy seed and several IED-making components in the Baghran district of Helmand province. The narcotics and IED-making materials were destroyed.
