BISMARCK, N.D. - The North Dakota National Guard's 957th Engineer Company (Multi-Role Bridge Company) will be conducting an operation assessment on a new bridge anchorage system at Kimball Bottoms south of Bismarck.
The Kimball Bottoms area will be closed to the public for safety reasons from 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9 to 5 p.m. Friday, June 11. The main channel of the Missouri River will not be closed. The training will begin with a weeklong 40-hour stretch of classroom instruction on the new Improved Ribbon Bridge followed by a practical exercise with the equipment and bridge on Thursday, June 10. The 210-meter bridge span will be left in place overnight before the Soldiers and trainers disassemble it and end their training on Friday.
What makes this training unique is the 957th will be doing an operational assessment of a new anchorage system that has never before been installed on fast water and a span of 210 meters. If the overhead anchorage system does what the engineers expect from the assessment, the system will be packaged up and sent into theaters of operations immediately.
The unit will help alert area visitors to ensure public safety. There will be large military vehicles and various engineer equipment driving throughout the entire Kimball Bottoms area. The unit will be pre-positioning some of its equipment ahead of the exercise. The N.D. National Guard is asking the public to be aware of the training activities near Kimball Bottoms and use extreme caution due to increased vehicle and boat traffic for military operations.
The public's cooperation and understanding is appreciated. Media is invited to cover training operations on the Missouri River from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, June 10, and pre-coordination is requested.
