All four active services met or exceeded their numerical accession goals for fiscal year 2013 through June, Defense Department officials reported.
Here are the numbers:
-- Army: 49,273 accessions, 101 percent of its goal of 48,690;
-- Navy: 28,482 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 28,482;
-- Marine Corps: 21,001 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 20,960; and
-- Air Force: 20,154 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 20,154.
The Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps exhibited strong retention numbers for the ninth month of fiscal 2013, officials said. The Navy exhibited strong retention numbers in the mid-career and career categories. Its 89 percent in the initial category retention rate relates to reduced accessions from four to six years ago, they added.
Meanwhile, five of the six reserve components met or exceeded their numerical accession goals for the first nine months of the fiscal year.
Here are the numbers:
-- Army National Guard: 38,002 accessions, 101 percent of its goal of 37,669;
-- Army Reserve: 19,779 accessions, 88 percent of its goal of 22,351;
-- Navy Reserve: 4,138 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 4,138;
-- Marine Corps Reserve: 6,891 accessions, 101 percent of its goal of 6,804;
-- Air National Guard: 7,788 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 7,788; and
-- Air Force Reserve: 5,515 accessions, 114 percent of its goal of 4,835.
All reserve components have met their attrition goals, officials said, noting that this indicator lags accession date by a month due to data availability.
