    All four active services met or exceeded their numerical accession goals for the first month of fiscal year 2014, which began Oct. 1, Defense Department officials announced today.

    Here are the services’ numbers for October:

    -- Army: 4,210 accessions, 102 percent of its goal of 4,120;

    -- Navy: 2,155 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 2,155;

    -- Marine Corps: 2,254 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 2,252; and

    -- Air Force: 1,770 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 1,764.

    The Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps exhibited strong retention numbers for the first month of fiscal 2014, officials said.

    Four of the six reserve components met or exceeded their accession goals for the first month of the fiscal year:

    -- Army National Guard: 4,505 accessions, 118 percent of its goal of 3,828;

    -- Army Reserve: 2,116 accessions, 96 percent of its goal of 2,203;

    -- Navy Reserve: 313 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 313;

    -- Marine Corps Reserve: 803 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 801;

    -- Air National Guard: 681 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 681; and

    -- Air Force Reserve: 470 accessions, 93 percent of its goal of 507.

    All reserve components met their attrition goals, or were within the percentage variance allowed by the Defense Department, officials said, noting that attrition data lags behind accession data. Current trends are expected to continue, they added.
