DOD Announces Recruiting and Retention Numbers

All four active services met or exceeded their numerical accession goals for fiscal 2014, through December 2013, Defense Department officials announced today.

Here are the accession numbers for the active services and how they compare with the fiscal year’s goals:

-- Army: 10,924 accessions, 102 percent of its goal of 10,670;

-- Navy: 6,835 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 6,835;

-- Marine Corps: 5,413 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 5,410; and

-- Air Force: 6,549 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 6,536.

The Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps exhibited strong retention numbers for the third month of fiscal 2014.

Five of the six reserve components met or exceeded their fiscal-year-to-date 2014 numerical accession goals.

Here are the reserve-component numbers:

-- Army National Guard: 12,569 accessions, 104 percent of its goal of 12,060;

-- Army Reserve: 6,543 accessions, 92 percent of its goal of 7,081;

-- Navy Reserve: 936 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 936;

-- Marine Corps Reserve: 2,063 accessions, 103 percent of its goal of 2,011;

-- Air National Guard: 2,337 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 2,337; and

-- Air Force Reserve: 1,410 accessions, 103 percent of its goal of 1,369.

All reserve components have met their attrition goals or were within the allowed variance. Current trends are expected to continue. (This indicator lags due to data availability.)
