    All four active services met or exceeded their numerical accession goals for fiscal year 2014 through May, Defense Department officials announced today.

    Here are the numbers for the first eight months of the fiscal year:

    -- Army: 36,612 accessions, 101.3 percent of its goal of 36,150;

    -- Navy: 19,763 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 19,763;

    -- Marine Corps: 13,146 accessions, 100.1 percent of its goal of 13,128; and

    -- Air Force: 17,049 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 17,049.

    All four services exhibited strong retention numbers, officials said.

    Meanwhile, four of the six reserve components met or exceeded their fiscal-year-to-date 2014 numerical accession goals through May. All six reserve components also met or exceeded DOD quality benchmarks, officials said.

    Here are the reserve component numbers:

    -- Army National Guard: 33,437 accessions, 96.6 percent of its goal of 34,607;

    -- Army Reserve: 18,026 accessions, 94.1 percent of its goal of 19,155;

    -- Navy Reserve: 2,513 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 2,513;

    -- Marine Corps Reserve: 5,308 accessions, 101.7 percent of its goal of 5,221;

    -- Air National Guard: 6,712 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 6,712; and

    -- Air Force Reserve: 4,407 accessions, 125 percent of its goal of 3,527.

    All reserve components have met their attrition goals or were within the allowed variance, and current trends are expected to continue, officials said, noting that data availability for this indicator lags behind availability of accessions data.
