Services Meet Fiscal Year Recruiting Goals Through July

All four active services met or exceeded their numerical accession goals for fiscal 2014 through July, Defense Department officials announced today.

Here are the services’ numbers for the first 10 months of the fiscal year:

-- Army: 44,852 accessions, 101.2 percent of its goal of 44,340;

-- Navy: 26,765 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 26,765;

-- Marine Corps: 19,247 accessions, 100.1 percent of its goal of 19,224; and

-- Air Force: 20,578 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 20,578.

All four services exhibited strong fiscal year retention numbers through July, officials said.

Meanwhile, four of the six reserve components met or exceeded their fiscal year numerical accession goals through July. In addition, officials said, five of the reserve components met or exceeded DoD quality benchmarks.

Here are the reserve-component accession numbers for the first 10 months of the fiscal year:

-- Army National Guard: 40,403 accessions, 97.7 percent of its goal of 41,356;

-- Army Reserve: 22,527 accessions, 92.7 percent of its goal of 24,296;

-- Navy Reserve: 3,247 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 3,247;

-- Marine Corps Reserve: 7,482 accessions, 102 percent of its goal of 7,332;

-- Air National Guard: 8,415 accessions, 100 percent of its goal of 8,415; and

-- Air Force Reserve: 5,749 accessions, 119.8 percent of its goal of 4,798.

All reserve components have met their attrition goals or were within the allowed variance, and current trends are expected to continue, officials said, noting that this indicator lags due to data availability.
