DELARAM, Afghanistan -- After a command is yelled, a Georgian infantryman pulls the cord at the base of a 120mm tube, sending a 120mm mortar down range, May 24. Georgians with the 31st Georgian Bn., 3rd Brigade, Regimental Combat Team 2, gathered their 81mm and 120mm mortar tubes for one final training exercise alongside Marines with 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liason Company.
"This training is important because [the Georgians] will be moving into the battle space," said Capt. Micah Miner, Fire Power Control Team 3, Supporting Arms Liaison Team Bravo. "This is their last chance to do this in a controlled environment; the next time will be in combat."
Throughout the afternoon, Georgians fired from both 81mm and 120mm firing systems, and continued into the night. The mortar systems use high explosive, smoke and illumination rounds.
