    DoD Announces Recruiting, Retention Numbers Through May 2015

    The active-duty Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force met or exceeded their fiscal year-to-date 2015 accession goals through May 2015, Defense Department officials announced today.

    The active-duty Army missed its goal by 5,222, officials said.

    Here are the active-component recruiting numbers for fiscal year 2015 through May 2015:

    -- Army: 33,382 accessions, 86.5 percent of its goal of 38,604;

    -- Navy: 22,049 accessions, 100.0 percent of its goal of 22,049;

    -- Marine Corps: 16,185 accessions, 100.1 percent of its goal of 16,171; and

    -- Air Force: 15,265 accessions, 100.0 percent of its goal of 15,265.

    The Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps exhibited strong retention numbers for the eighth month of fiscal 2015.

    Five of the six reserve components met or exceeded their fiscal-year-to-date 2015 numerical accession goals through May 2015. All six reserve components also met or exceeded the DoD quality benchmarks.

    Here are the reserve-component accession numbers for fiscal year 2015 through May 2015:

    -- Army National Guard: 29,173 accessions, 90.7 percent of its goal of 32,169;

    -- Army Reserve: 18,760 accessions, 102.5 of its goal of 18,300;

    -- Navy Reserve: 3,575 accessions, 100.0 percent of its goal of 3,575;

    -- Marine Corps Reserve: 4,965 accessions, 101.3 percent of its goal of 4,903;

    -- Air National Guard: 6,030 accessions, 100.0 percent of its goal of 6,030; and

    -- Air Force Reserve: 4,699 accessions, 100.0 percent of its goal of 4,699.

    Each of the six reserve components met their attrition goals or were within the allowed variance. Current trends are expected to continue. This indicator lags due to data availability.
