    1st Cavalry Division

FORT HOOD, Texas — Col. Timothy R. Jaeger, serving as the Chief of Staff of the 1st Cavalry Division, concludes his duty with the division during a retreat ceremony on July 1, 2025, at Cooper Field, Fort Hood, Texas.

A symbolic event held after a duty assignment, a retreat ceremony is a time for participants to gather, reflect, honor their experiences, and mark the transition to a new journey. As the American flag is lowered, it is customary for the 1st Cavalry Division Band to perform a bugle call known as "Retreat," signifying the end of the duty day. Simultaneously, the Honor Guard lowers the American flag.

Jaeger served with the First Team for three years, beginning in July 2022. First, taking command of the Air Cavalry Brigade, then as the Division Chief of Staff.

"Jaeger is an officer with outsized influence over everything 1st Cavalry Division executes, and we have been lucky to have him over the last years," said Maj. Gen. Thomas M. Feltey, the 1st Cavalry Division commander.

His next assignment will be at the Pentagon, where he will serve as the Director of DAMO-AV G3/5.

"To the Troopers of the First Team, thank you for allowing me to serve with you. It's been the honor of a lifetime," said Jaeger. "To the Brigade Commanders, thank you for your trust and support. Your leadership at the tactical edge of this Division is where it matters most, and it's been a privilege to serve alongside each of you."
