ANCHORAGE, AK – The U.S. Navy capped off a week of service, outreach, and connection with a symbolic hike to Flat Top Mountain, closing out Navy Week Anchorage 2025. The summit marked the culmination of a robust schedule of events across the city, where all Sailors put tools in hands, stories in hearts, and lasting impact into the lives of hundreds.

Throughout the week, Seabees from Naval Construction Group One rolled up their sleeves for projects that included constructing picnic tables alongside youth in treatment at the Adolescent Residential Center for Help (ARCH), packaging thousands of meals at the Food Bank of Alaska, helping build beds for local children with the nonprofit Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and engaging with community members at events like the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks baseball game.

Along the way, they shared personal stories, career journeys, and words of encouragement—especially with young Alaskans considering service.

“Every effort we made was for this wonderful community,” said Builder Chief Petty Officer Micaela Tennant, reflecting on the week’s work that included mentoring youth, leading building teams, and representing the Navy’s legacy of service.

Navy Week is designed to connect Americans with the Navy in cities that don’t typically host a naval presence. For the Seabees, whose motto is “We Build, We Fight”, this mission felt especially aligned with their own identity: building for the improvement of the community at large.

One of the Seabees' first engagements involved trail restoration work at Virgin Creek Falls Trail —work that improved local access to public lands and set the tone for the rest of the week. From there, the Seabees split into smaller teams and embedded themselves in schools, youth programs, and nonprofits across Anchorage, offering both their technical skillsets and personal insight.

“What started with trail work ended here at Flat Top,” said Equipment Operator 1st Class Hannah Heck. “I feel unbelievably proud of the mark we've left on Anchorage.”

As Navy Week Anchorage concluded — hiking was a gesture of gratitude to the land and people of Alaska. Standing shoulder to shoulder at the peak, they contemplated the City of Anchorage taking a quiet moment to reflect on a week that fused purpose with connection.

Navy Week is a nationwide outreach program organized by the United States Navy to connect with communities that do not typically have a significant Navy presence. Held in cities across the country, Navy Week brings in Sailors from multiple commands to participate in public events, educational activities, and community service projects. The goal is to educate the public about the Navy’s mission, capabilities, and the critical role it plays in national defense and global maritime security. Through demonstrations, ship visits, school engagements, and media outreach, Navy Week fosters a greater understanding and appreciation of the Navy’s contributions while strengthening the bond between the Navy and the American people.

Naval Construction Group One (NCG 1) is homeported in Port Hueneme, California, and leads and manages the overall capability and readiness of its Naval Construction Regiments (NCRs), Naval Mobile Construction Battalions (NMCBs), Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit (CBMU), and Underwater Construction Team (UCT). NCG 1 provides the required engineering support that the Navy and Nation need to construct and maintain base facilities, repair battle-damaged facilities, conduct defensive operations as required, and to meet disaster preparedness and recovery missions.
