POINTE AUX PIMENTS, Mauritius (June 25, 2025) — Ghanaian defense leaders joined U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa during the 2025 African Maritime Forces Summit to build on ongoing security partnerships and expand cooperation in West African coastal defense.
Ghana’s active role in maritime law enforcement and counter-narcotics operations was a key focus at the summit, where participants discussed integrating training efforts and developing logistics pathways for rapid response missions across the Gulf of Guinea.
“Ghana has emerged as a regional leader in securing maritime routes and addressing transnational threats,” said Maj. Gen. Robert B. Sofge Jr., commander of MARFOREUR/AF. “We are proud to stand with them as partners.”
MARFOREUR/AF has partnered with Ghana in bilateral engagements and through multinational exercises focused on amphibious training, humanitarian assistance, and non-combatant evacuation operations.
Summit conversations also explored maritime domain awareness, cyber defense coordination, and noncommissioned officer military professionalization programs, laying the groundwork for long-term collaboration.
“Ghana’s leadership and forward-leaning posture make it a cornerstone of security in West Africa,” said Sofge. “Our partnership is one built on shared goals and mutual respect, and we look forward to its continued success.”
