POINTE AUX PIMENTS, Mauritius (June 25, 2025) — Angola reaffirmed its growing defense ties with U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa during the 2025 African Maritime Forces Summit, with a shared focus on maritime security, humanitarian response, and professional military development.
Angola’s location on the Atlantic coast and its maritime domain awareness challenges make it a natural partner in regional naval and amphibious cooperation. MARFOREUR/AF officials emphasized Angola’s evolving role in protecting African coastal waters and countering illicit activity along vital sea routes.
“Angola brings regional influence and operational insight to the table,” said Maj. Gen. Robert B. Sofge Jr., commander of MARFOREUR/AF. “By working together, we are strengthening maritime security and building habits of cooperation.”
Angolan military leaders engaged with U.S. and allied counterparts to explore future exercises and training engagements, including opportunities for amphibious planning, crisis logistics, and integration with U.S. Navy and Marine Corps expeditionary elements.
AMFS participants acknowledged Angola’s contributions to multinational security operations and its increasing investment in defense modernization and regional leadership.
“Angola’s professionalism and growing defense capacity make it a valuable contributor to Africa’s long-term security architecture,” said Sofge. “We look forward to enhancing this relationship through sustained engagement and trust.”
