POINTE AUX PIMENTS, Mauritius (June 25, 2025) — U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa hosted senior Tunisian military leaders during the 2025 African Maritime Forces Summit to strengthen an enduring partnership and focus on shared priorities for Mediterranean security and regional stability.

Tunisia’s participation at AMFS underscored its strategic role as a gateway between Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Leaders discussed collaborative training efforts, including recent amphibious integration and urban warfare exercises, and emphasized Tunisia’s value as a reliable partner in counterterrorism, maritime defense, and peacekeeping initiatives.

“Tunisia remains one of our most consistent and capable partners in North Africa,” said Maj. Gen. Robert B. Sofge Jr., commander of MARFOREUR/AF. “Their dedication to professional development, democratic resilience, and regional cooperation makes our work together meaningful and impactful.”

The summit provided a forum for reviewing past military engagements, including bilateral exchanges and security cooperation led by U.S. Marines with Tunisian forces. Participants also examined ways to improve command-and-control and expeditionary support systems.

MARFOREUR/AF officials and Tunisian delegates discussed the evolving security environment in the Maghreb and Western Mediterranean, focusing on countering violent extremism and strengthening maritime defense.

“We are proud to stand with Tunisia and to grow this partnership that spans decades,” said Sofge. “Together, we are building a capable force network that enhances deterrence and improves security for millions on both sides of the Mediterranean.”
