BUSAN, South Korea (June 24, 2025) -- U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officers from Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea (CNFK) and Commander, Fleet Activities Chinhae (CFAC) and Republic of Korea (ROK) Flag Officers’ command master chiefs from Chinhae and Busan held a combined ceremony commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Korean War at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery-Korea in Busan, June 24, 2025.
“When we get together with our ROK Navy counterparts at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery, it’s more than a gesture- it’s commitment to shared sacrifice and an enduring alliance,” said Chief Intelligence Specialist Shadaron Odom. “Honoring the fallen together reminds us that the strength of our partnership was initially forged by those who came before us.”
The event began with a video highlighting in the significance of the Korean War and the sacrifices made establishing the Republic of Korea. The leaders then attended a wreath-laying ceremony in the cemetery, followed by a tour of the Korean War Memorial Museum.
“This isn’t just a ceremony, it’s a reminder of the cost,” said Chief Personnel Specialist Kenneth Burnett. “Coming here with the ROK Chiefs shows that our bond didn’t just start yesterday. It was built over many years, through partnership and sacrifice.”
CNFK is the U.S. Navy’s representative in South Korea, providing leadership and expertise in naval matters to improve institutional and operational effectiveness between the two navies and to strengthen collective security efforts in Korea and the region.
