FARMERSVILLE, Texas — U.S. Army Troopers assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division participated in the annual Audie Murphy Day in Farmersville, Texas, June 21, 2025.
This year’s event marked a special milestone, the 80th anniversary of Audie Murphy’s homecoming and what would have been his 100th birthday.
The day began with a wreath-laying ceremony, where several Troopers from the Fort Hood Audie Murphy Club paid tribute to the legacy of one of the most decorated combat veterans of World War II.
Following the ceremony, members of the Fort Hood Audie Murphy Club and the 1st Cavalry Division Honor Guard marched in a parade through downtown Farmersville, honoring the local hero’s life and service.
Later in the day, the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, showcased a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle during a static display at the closing ceremony.
In recognition of Murphy’s legacy, Texas Governor Greg Abbott officially proclaimed June 20, 2025, as Audie Murphy Day in the state.
“Murphy fought with valor, courage under fire, and an instinctive sense of right,” Abbott stated in the proclamation. “In honoring Audie Murphy, we honor the unbreakable resolve that underpins our history, and we remember that even the smallest among us can shape the destiny of nations if only they have the will.”
Murphy, a native of Hunt County, Texas, received the Medal of Honor for his actions in France during World War II and later served in the Texas National Guard. He also became a successful actor and outspoken advocate for veterans suffering from the invisible wounds of war.
