BAUMHOLDER, Germany — Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 16th Special Troops Battalion, hosted a Change of Command ceremony at Baumholder, Germany, on June 13, 2025.
This marks the transition of leadership from outgoing commander Cpt. Ryan Goetz to incoming commander, Cpt. Nathaniel Trznadel.
The event celebrated the accomplishments and dedication of Cpt. Goetz, who has served as company commander. Before the ceremony commenced, 16th Special Troops Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Jeremy Glosson, presented Cpt. Goetz with the Meritorious Service Medal for his exemplary service. This award highlighted his leadership and commitment to the unit throughout his tenure.
The formal Change of Command took place as the HHC 1st Sgt. Justina Emmanuel passed the guidon, symbolizing authority and responsibility, from Cpt. Goetz to Lt. Col. Glosson and then to Cpt. Trznadel. This pivotal moment signified a transition of leadership within the company.
Lt. Col. Glosson spoke of Cpt. Goetz's diligence and dedication during his command. He acknowledged his contributions to the unit and the military. Following his remarks, Cpt. Goetz delivered a profound departing speech, thanking his colleagues and highlighting the unit’s successes during his command.
Goetz was commissioned as an active Army Engineer Officer in May 2016 after graduating from Clemson University. His initial assignment was as an assistant operations officer, followed by a platoon leader position with the 299th Brigade Engineer Battalion at Fort Carson, Colorado. He then served as a brigade assistant plans officer before moving to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, in 2018. At JBLM, he was an executive officer for the 610th Engineer Support Company, a logistics officer (S4) for the 864th Engineer Battalion, and a brigade plans officer for the 555th Engineer Brigade.
After completing the Engineer Captain's career course, Goetz was assigned to the 16th Sustainment Brigade as the brigade engineer in February 2023.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Management with a focus on Supply Chain Management. His military education includes the Engineer Basic Officer Leaders Course, the Engineer Captain's Career Course, and the Unit Movement Officer Course.
His awards include the Army Commendation Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal.
Goetz has been married to his wife, Colleen Goetz, for five years.
