U.S. Marine Raiders assigned to Special Operations Task Force – Philippines, in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and supported by the U.S. Army 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), conducted bilateral helicopter casting training off the coast of Palawan and in the Balabac Strait, May 13–17, 2025.
The training evolution, conducted during both day and night operations, focused on strengthening maritime interoperability and enhancing bilateral readiness through helicopter insertion, maritime extraction, small boat recovery, and tactical movement drills. These activities supported the shared objective of maintaining a high level of preparedness for joint maritime operations and contributing to regional deterrence through persistent forward presence.
“This type of bilateral training reflects the enduring strength of our alliance,” said a Marine Raider Officer leading in the exercise. “It reinforces credible deterrence through forward presence, shared capability, and mutual trust. Peace is preserved through strength—and that strength is built through consistent, combined training.”
Rotary-wing support was provided by the 160th SOAR(A), employing MH-60 Blackhawks and MH-47 Chinooks to conduct day and night open-water personnel insertions and extractions with precision and safety. The training demonstrated the ability of U.S. and Philippine forces to rapidly deploy and recover personnel in maritime conditions across multiple operating environments.
These recurring events, coordinated by U.S. Special Operations Command Pacific and the Philippine Coast Guard, reinforce a shared commitment to regional security and the promotion of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
