FORWARD OPERATING BASE SALERNO, Afghanistan -- A mosque was damaged after being struck in an insurgent attack May 20 at Forward Operating Base Salerno.

Anti-Afghan forces used a 107 mm rocket in the attack on the mosque, punching a hole in the building's roof and sparking a small fire, said U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Jeffrey Wilson, 717th Explosive Ordinance Disposal Company first sergeant, of Fort Campbell, Ky.

According to Task Force Rakkasan Spokesman Maj. Mark Kovalcik, the attack was typical for Anti-Afghan Forces operating in the Khowst area.

"Once again, they don't care who they hurt. They could have hurt people who were praying," he said. "AAF have no regard for innocent Afghans or religious sites such as mosques."

    The incident remains under investigation.
