MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII, Hawaii – Gunnery Sergeant Ryan M. Schwartz, company gunnery sergeant of Communications company, 3d Marine Littoral Regiment, 3d Marine Division, was awarded the United States Marine Corps Sergeant Harry D. Myers Award for his significant contribution to the combat readiness of 3d MLR.
GySgt Schwartz’s leadership was instrumental during deployment to the Philippines for Littoral Rotation Force – Luzon (LRF-L) in 2024. As the staff non-commissioned officer-in-charge of Communications company, he led his Marines through the deployment and enabled 3d MLR to successfully project combat power across the first island chain, directly supporting the goals of Force Design 2030. GySgt Schwartz’s experience and expertise allowed for seamless integration with joint and allied partners during bilateral operations in the Philippines, ensuring a unified and effective fighting force. He didn’t just maintain communications; he pioneered a new benchmark for operations in contested environments. His innovative communication concept enabled effective communication across multiple military occupational specialties.
GySgt Schwartz returned from the Philippines and quickly transitioned into the role of company gunnery sergeant where he immediately took responsible for the training and readiness of 150 Marines, leading them through advanced communications exercises. He was instrumental in the company receiving a perfect score on the comprehensive Field Supply and Maintenance Analysis Office (FSMAO) inspection – a testament to the high standards he instilled within the company.
GySgt Schwartz's impact extends far beyond successful deployments and inspections. He demonstrates exemplarily leadership every day and invests deeply in the success of his Marines. He is a trusted leader and mentor that Marines turn to for advice and guidance in all aspects of their lives.
