470th QM Company Closes Chapter of Airborne Excellence

FORT BRAGG, NORTH CAROLINA, UNITED STATES

    143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary)

FORT BRAGG, N.C. – The U.S. Army Reserve’s 470th Quartermaster Company officially inactivated during a ceremony at Fort Bragg on May 4, 2025, concluding nearly seven years of airborne sustainment operations in support of Army readiness.
Activated in 2018 under the 518th Sustainment Brigade, the 470th was built for speed, precision, and mission impact. With a core mission in aerial delivery, the company packed thousands of parachutes each month and moved over 60 short tons of supplies daily to keep airborne units mission-ready.
“The 470th became a cornerstone of strategic sustainment and a symbol of technical excellence and discipline,” said Col. Crystal L. McCarter, commander of the 518th Sustainment Brigade, headquartered in Knightdale, North Carolina.
From Operation Northern Strike in Michigan to Operation Purple Red Hat at Fort Walker, the company honed its edge through high-tempo training missions. Between 2021 and 2023, the 470th deployed three times in support of Operation Spartan Shield in Qatar, sustaining operations across the CENTCOM area of responsibility.
Beyond CENTCOM, the 470th also operated on a global stage, conducting joint operations alongside British, Dutch, Greek, and French forces. Their participation in D-Day commemorative airborne missions in France was more than symbolic—it was a living tribute to allied sacrifice, a reaffirmation of international partnerships, and a powerful reminder of the Army’s enduring role in preserving history and strengthening coalition trust.
As the Army Reserve evolves to meet future operational demands, the 470th’s inactivation closes a chapter—but not its legacy. The unit’s final major mission was supporting Operation Toy Drop 2024, where it played a key role in safely executing jumps for more than 1,200 U.S. and allied paratroopers. It was a fitting final mission for a company defined by precision, readiness, and global reach.
During the ceremony, Soldiers and senior leaders gathered as the unit’s colors were formally cased—symbolizing not just a structural change, but the conclusion of a mission carried out with pride and professionalism.
“Every mission, every load rigged, and every Soldier developed here contributes to what comes next in our Army’s story,” McCarter said. The 470th may no longer be on the rolls, but its legacy lives on in every Soldier who carried the mission forward—with discipline, precision, and purpose.
