DJIBOUTI— U.S. Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa service members and U.S. Navy’s Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron-1 (MSRON-1) hosted women from the Djiboutian Coast Guard for the semi-annual Sea Sisters event April 14-16, at Camp Lemonnier and Camp Doraleh.
Sea Sisters focuses on building partnerships through joint force training. Some of the topics included maritime tactical medical care, weapons familiarization, strategic planning skills and mission execution tactics, all contributing to fortifying the readiness and lethality of troops.
“The maritime domain is a challenging environment,” said U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Justin Kubu, CJTF-HOA deputy commander. “It takes the very best of both our nations’ maritime forces, men and women, to be able to provide security.”
The first day of training featured a weapons lesson, taught by U.S. service members at Camp Lemonnier. The Djiboutian Coast Guard developed skills with various weapons, ending the classroom portion with the opportunity to apply their learned skills in a range simulator.
During the next two days, lessons took place at Camp Doraleh, where Djiboutian Coast Guard members learned radio etiquette, search and seizure operations, personnel pat down procedures, maritime engine malfunction corrections, and rendering medical care under fire.
The event provided both the Djiboutian Coast Guard and U.S. service members with a platform to learn and develop new skills from one another, strengthening the nations’ partnership and interoperability capabilities for future maritime operations.
“Sea Sisters help us grow stronger,” said Dr. Fataouma Yacin, a Djiboutian Coast Guard member. ”Not only as individuals, but as united nations of maritime professionals, capable of sharing strategies with the same goals in mind, as partners.”
