Pago Pago, American Samoa — The U.S. Department of Defense and the French Army New Caledonia collaborated to participate in the biannual exercise Croix du Sud, a French-led multilateral exercise, which will last from April 22 to May 3 in the islands of Noumea, New Caledonia; Pago Pago; and Wallis and Futuna.

The 374th Airlift Wing, Yokota Air Base, Japan, and 3rd Wing, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, will conduct air operations in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility to enhance security relations with key partnering nations as part of the exercise.

Croix du Sud is an important opportunity to demonstrate U.S. resolve to support humanitarian interests of Allies and partners in the region, increase regional capacity for managing disaster and crisis events, and enhance partnerships and interoperability between U.S., France and surrounding Oceania countries.

“Croix du Sud 25 gives us the opportunity to strengthen our ability to train and operate alongside international partners in a complex Pacific theater environment,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Sofia Guiney, a C-17 Globemaster III commander assigned to the 517th Airlift Squadron at JBER. “This exercise allows us to demonstrate our shared commitment to our Pacific neighbors. It is truly a privilege to train in this part of the world, where we not only strengthen our capabilities but also stand ready to bring support and hope to communities if disaster strikes.”

There are approximately 2,000 participants, 13 aircraft and five Naval ships from 18 countries participating in this iteration of exercise Croix du Sud.

For more information about Croix du Sud and the U.S. Pacific Air Forces’ participation, contact U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Frederick Cruz, exercise lead, at DSN 315-447-7510 or frederick.cruz@us.af.mil.
