    16th Sustainment Brigade

OTTERBURN TRAINING AREA, United Kingdom – The 95th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion conducted a joint command post exercise at Otterburn, England, from April 7 to April 15, 2025.
The 95th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion (CSSB) participates in Operation Clydesdale Thunder, a joint training exercise with the United Kingdom’s (UK) 9th Theatre Support Battalion, Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers (REME). This effort at Otterburn Training Camp focuses on enhancing multinational sustainment operations and improving U.S.-UK interoperability.
The purpose of this exercise is to coordinate sustainment operations by conducting joint TOC operations to enhance NATO convergence.
“What’s unique about this movement is we’re crossing over on the English Channel on a ferry, which the army hasn’t done in over 20 years,” says U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Dustin Moody. “It shows our freedom of movement and how quickly we can reach the necessary location.”
On April 7, a convoy was set to travel to Europoort in Rotterdam. U.S. Army CPT Jordan Avery, the 16th Sustainment Brigade Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) Commander, briefed personnel on pre-combat checks (PCC) and inspections (PCI), focusing on vehicle breakdown management, safety, and communication at checkpoints. Implementing comprehensive practices mitigates risks in difficult environments, potentially inspiring joint partners to adopt similar methods.
Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) lead the ground operations prior to SP.

“We organize and supervise, make sure everything's good to go,” says U.S. Army Sgt. Chris Teah of the 240th Composite Supply Company. “We ensure the vehicle has been properly PMCS, that all PPI and PPC are worn at all times, and that the safety level is maintained.”
The 95th CSSB and 9th REME conduct joint exercises to enhance capabilities through combined Convoy Support Centers, Supply Support Activities, and integrated command and control systems. They also focus on water purification, maintenance, and field feeding to sustain operational effectiveness.
The exercise focuses on joint mission analysis, allowing the 95th CSSB to work closely with UK partners to integrate mission command systems with Brigade personnel. This collaboration helps identify and coordinate training on essential tasks for effective multinational operations.
Tasks are executed and evaluated throughout the training to ensure readiness and efficiency. The 95th CSSB can conduct sustainment operations in various environments and scenarios by the end.
The collaborative exercise highlights NATO's commitment to readiness and defense strategies. The 95th CSSB works with the 9th REME to share experiences and strengthen sustainment operations.
"I think the exercise will contribute to the base understanding of what we each have to offer,” says 95th CSSB Liaison Officer, Lt. Janay Laburnum of 9th TS BN REME. "Our capabilities and ways of working so that we can integrate those further in the future." Lt. Laburnum says, "I think this is setting the foundations for that understanding."
The joint training exercise at Otterburn Training Camp enhances the capabilities of the 95th CSSB and the UK’s 9th Theatre Support Battalion. The forces improve NATO interoperability through missions that foster teamwork and readiness, ensuring allied troops are prepared for evolving challenges in diverse operational environments.
