NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY BAHRAIN – On April 1, 2025, Task Force 51/5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade proudly announced the promotion of Master Sgt. Ruben Martinez-Ruiz to the rank of Master Gunnery Sgt., highlighting Martinez’s last promotion in the Marine Corps. With 22 years of honorable service under his belt, this milestone speaks to Martinez’s outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to the Marines and the Corps.

A native of Spring Valley, California, Martinez enlisted in June 2002. He attended recruit training and Marine Combat Training before reporting to the Marine Detachment at Fort Lee, Virginia, where he earned the military occupational specialty of bulk fuel specialist.

Over the years, Martinez filled many leadership roles and deployed in support of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Operation Enduring Freedom, and two iterations of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response Central Command. This promotion places him among an elite group, being one of only five Marines in his occupational field to hold this esteemed rank across the Corps.

“As I progressed in the Marine Corps, I never thought I’d make it this far in the ranks,” said Martinez and ended his speech with, “Don’t take anything for granted, remain hungry for knowledge, and look out for the well-being of your Marines.”

As a newly promoted Master Gunnery Sgt., Martinez will continue to support TF 51/5th MEB as a fuels chief and a Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Victim Advocate, playing a vital role in supporting mission success and enabling the troop welfare of his fellow service members.

Task Force 51/5 responds to crises and contingencies; coordinates, plans, and executes operations; conducts theater security cooperation; and advances emerging Naval concepts at sea, from the sea, and ashore in order to support U.S. Central Command, 5th Fleet, and U.S. Marine Corps Forces Central Command theater objectives.
