More than 25 Marines and sailors from Camp Pendleton volunteered April 21 to help fulfill the dreams of families.

As an annual event, the Single Marine Program asks for participation to help support the Habitat for Humanity Project in local communities surrounding the base.

"The Marine Corps has given [me] a lot of things I never had. I see it only fit to give back," said Sgt. Mark Ribott, a volunteer. Service members were working on future homes for brothers and sisters of the armed forces along with working on houses for civilian families.

"It's an amazing feeling to know you are helping someone," said Ribott, deputy family officer, Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group.

"Your contribution will benefit them and their family." Service members worked with project volunteers to help build simple and affordable housing for selected families.

To be selected, homeowners went through screening and had to meet certain requirements. After the requirements were met, the homeowners were obligated to work on their house for more than 100 hours side by side with the habitat for humanity representatives.

Building the houses was a great opportunity for the Marines and sailors to have a chance to help the community while learning valuable skills.

"It's an excellent project that never gets old," said Eddie Hadley, manager, Single Marine Program, 21 Area SMP. "It not only teaches them to get involved with the community, but it keeps them out of trouble."
