JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska — Professional Military Education for senior noncommissioned officers on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson is taking a new approach to training. Using a revised classroom model, the new Senior NCO Foundations Course is projected to produce nearly triple the number of graduates per class as before.
"The revisions to the course itself are still relatively new,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Maxeddie Ibarrientos, a PME instructor and a contributing pioneer of the new course. “But through these programs, we are leveraging our resources to train and equip our senior leaders for whatever may lie ahead.”
The Senior NCO Foundations Course will become a requirement for promotion to the senior NCO level starting Dec. 1, and the JBER PME plans on setting the Air Force standard for how these courses should run. The NCOs receive training in problem solving, team management, and general leadership, along with other skills relevant to the students’ respective career fields.
JBER is one of three installations to test this new process of training SNCOs through a large volunteer force of experienced NCOs sharing their varying expertise on specific subject matters in their respective career fields. JBER also remains the only installation to have the entirety of the PME department in the same building, making all levels of military education on JBER intertwined.
