The Compressor Research Facility (CRF) supports exploratory and advanced development efforts in turbine engine compressor technology. This facility is used to determine the aerodynamic and aeromechanical performance of the most advanced fans and compressors in the world, all while enhancing the understanding of their complex flow physics. The High-Performance Turbine Engine Technology (IHPTET) program leaned heavily on the Aerospace Systems Directorate’s CRF, which resulted in improvements to the F-16’s F110 engine, the F-22’s F119, and the F-35’s F135 engine. One example of such improvements is seen in the F-16’s 110 engine which benefitted from a long chord blisk (bladed disk) fan, composite fan duct, and reduced part count augmenter.
