FORT NOVOSEL, Ala. — “Volunteerism sends a message of selfless service to the community,” said Col. John P. Miller III, Fort Novosel garrison commander. “It demonstrates what we all can accomplish for Fort Novosel and The Wiregrass if we simply spring into action and solve problems.”

The US Army Aviation Center of Excellence (USAACE) and Fort Novosel held a Quarterly Volunteer Recognition Ceremony on Aug. 27, 2024, at The Landing to honor 32 Soldiers and community members from eight different on post agencies. Fort Novosel volunteers were awarded a certificate and peanut lapel pin for their combined 14,253 volunteer hours and the $477,324.59 that their efforts saved the installation.

“In 2000, before I had to be an ‘Army of One,’” continued Miller,” I was told to 'Be All You Can Be.' 24 years later, what is old is new and we are all striving to ‘Be All You Can Be' again. Every day, our volunteers show the community what it can accomplish by living up to the motto, ‘Be All You Can Be.’”

Miller gave a heartfelt thanks to the USAACE and Fort Novosel Soldiers, DA civilians and Soldier-family members who devoted their time and resources into the installation and community while volunteering during the second and third quarters of fiscal year 2024.

Miller, Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Gary Williams, and Mrs. Mollie Miller presented volunteers with a certificate and a peanut lapel pin in recognition of their selfless service.

Jessica Merrill was voted the overall volunteer of the second quarter and Vincent Bendebel was voted the overall volunteer of the third quarter.
