    Preparing Future Soldiers
JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — The Tacoma Recruit Company, part of the Seattle Recruiting Battalion, is helping prepare future soldiers for basic training by providing hands-on training at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). Utilizing the Mission Training Complex (MTC) and the Engagement Skills Trainer (EST), the company ensures recruits are ready for the challenges ahead.
    Preparing for Basic Training
The Tacoma Recruit Company is dedicated to ensuring recruits are physically and mentally prepared for basic training. Before heading to their training sites, recruits participate in a comprehensive preparatory program designed to build their physical endurance. This preparation is essential for helping future Soldiers meet the Army’s standards and excel during their initial training.
“We want to provide future Soldiers with hands-on training, simulating real-life unit experiences,” said Capt. Joan Alba, commander of the Tacoma Recruit Company. “Our goal is to help bridge the gap from civilian to military life as they enter the Army.”
    Leveraging JBLM’s Mission Training Complex
One of the advantages of The Tacoma Recruit Company is accessibility to the MTC at JBLM. This facility offers a range of training simulations and scenarios that closely mirror what recruits will experience during basic training and their military careers.
At the MTC, recruits practice essential skills such as land navigation, communication protocols and tactical maneuvers. These hands-on exercises familiarize them with military procedures and build their confidence as they prepare for the next phase of their training.
“The MTC is an incredible resource for our recruits because it enhances soldiers' understanding of basic tasks of military operations,” said Alba. “It provides a realistic environment where soldiers can develop critical skills before they face real-world challenges.”
Enhancing Marksmanship with the Engagement Skills Trainer
The Tacoma Recruit Company places a strong emphasis on marksmanship. Recruits receive training on the M4 carbine rifle, the standard issue weapon for U.S. Army soldiers, using JBLM’s EST. The EST is a virtual shooting range that provides a safe, controlled environment for recruits to practice their shooting skills.
The EST is equipped with technology that simulates a variety of combat scenarios, allowing recruits to hone their marksmanship under realistic conditions. This training is essential in building the confidence and proficiency necessary for success on the battlefield.
“The EST is a critical training tool that ensures Soldiers are well-prepared, confident, and proficient in their marksmanship and combat skills,” said Alba. “It helps Soldiers become a valuable asset to their units.”
Building the Future of the U.S. Army
The Tacoma Recruit Company’s dedication to preparing future Soldiers is evident in the training program they offer. By leveraging the resources at JBLM, including the MTC and the EST, the company ensures recruits are physically and mentally prepared for basic training. Equipping these recruits with the skills needed to succeed in their military careers.
“Our mission is to set our recruits up for success,” said Alba. “They are the future, and we take great pride in the work we do to prepare these young men and women for the challenges ahead. We are dedicated to creating leaders and soldiers for years to come.”
As part of the Seattle Recruiting Battalion, the Tacoma Recruit Company continues to play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of soldiers, ensuring they are ready to serve their country with honor and distinction.
