CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait — Basic Leader Course, BLC, class 409-24 graduated from the Noncommissioned Officer Academy, NCOA, on June 26, 2024 at an undisclosed location in the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of operations. This 169 academic hour course
teaches Soldiers the six leader core competencies: readiness, leadership, training management, communications, operations and program management.
All graduates of class 409-24 are mobilized or forward deployed to one of the countries in the CENTCOM AOR before attending the course. Attending professional military education while forward deployed demonstrates the U.S. Army’s commitment to develop noncommissioned officers around the world.
“It is important for BLC to be conducted overseas because of all the requirements that a young Soldier needs to be a leader,” said a BLC instructor. “We need our young Soldiers to be well
equipped to take over at any time.”
Traditionally, a Soldier would have to wait to attend BLC until they returned home from their nine to 12-month deployment, resulting in some Soldier’s career growth and advancement being placed on hold. The course allows Soldiers to continue their career progression up to the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving in the CENTCOM AOR.
NCOs from the Active-Duty Army, Army Reserve and National Guard train together during BLC because there is one standard, the Army standard. The U.S. Army sets itself apart as a premiere warfighting organization, emphasizing the importance of educating and developing noncommissioned officers, the backbone of the Army.
