FARAH, Afghanistan - Coalition forces welcomed Lt. Gen. Giuseppe Valotto, Italian Army Chief of Staff to participate in the dedication ceremony of Forward Operating Base Dimonios, March 29, at FOB Farah, Afghanistan.
Farah Provincial Gov. Rahool Amin and Italian Brig. Gen. Alessandro Veltri, Regional Command West commander, joined the various units assigned to FOB Farah in welcoming Valotto.
As the ceremony commenced many gathered around to witness the blessing of the FOB Dimonios.
"For Italy, guaranteeing Afghanistan's security in the next year is the most significant mission. In order to accomplish this goal we intend to bring in 1,000 men and woman, and this new FOB will enable us to succeed," Valotto said.
The FOB will house a variety of Italian units and is expected to become fully operational in the next several months.
During Valotto's visit he also addressed the troops assigned to Task Force South. He spoke on how proud he was of his forces for embarking on the mission to help provide stability and security to Afghanistan.
"As a commander I felt it was important to be in attendance to show my support of these men and women as they carry out our mission here in Afghanistan."
